Behaviour Support Policy and Practice Manual

This manual is presented in two parts.

Part 1, Policy and Practice, is applicable to all disability services delivered or funded by DADHC. Part 2, DADHC Procedures and Templates along with the templates below, is specifically for services delivered by DADHC but is also provided to DADHC-funded services to support their own work processes.

Person Centred Approaches in the Community Participation Program

A literature review and a guide have been developed by a consortium lead by the Australian Catholic University. The aim of these documents is to strengthen the capacity of Community Participation service providers to implement person centred approaches within their services.

In 2008/2009, Community Participation services from across NSW participated in 22 workshops designed to develop person centred approaches within services. These workshops focused on organisational and service change, renewal and realignment. To read the report from these workshops click here.

Disability Action Plan and Framework

DADHC has launched the Guidelines for disability action planning by NSW Government agencies to provide a flexible framework and suggested good practice for agencies to use in developing and implementing effective Disability Action Plans.

The Guidelines for disability action planning by NSW Government agencies are available in a variety of accessible formats including Braille, large print and e-text.

Allocation of Places in Supported Accommodation - Policy and Procedures This policy will replace the Placement of Clients in Group Homes policy from 1 August 2009. The policy will provide a consistent framework for managing requests and vacancies in DADHC operated and funded accommodation support services, simplifying administration for non-government providers. The migration of data to the accommodation register is scheduled for completion by the end of January 2010. Maintaining Respite Policy DADHC has reviewed and taken into consideration the many submissions made in relation to the two draft policy during the six week consultation process. The Minister requested that the draft policy be re-drafted to take account of this initial feedback. The policy reflects the concerns and suggestions made by many people including carers, advocates and service providers. It reflects how we can work together to support familiers who have made the dificult decision that they can no longer support their family member at home. The Department acknowledges that any family who has had to make such a decision has not done so lightly. A Round Table was held on 31 October 2008 to give us feedback on the revised draft policy. The report from the Round Table, a list of Round Table participants, a summary of policy changes, and a summary of other feedback received on the policy are available for information.
