Disability Action Planning
|
DADHC has the responsibility of leading the whole-of-Government framework for Disability Action Planning.
What is a Disability Action Plan?
- The purpose of a Disability Action Plan (DAP) is to support agencies to plan equitable services for people with a disability and eliminate, as far as possible, disability discrimination and barriers to access.
- A DAP identifies clear activities for an agency to deliver and is a way of monitoring progress against set outcomes and performance indicators.
Why is it important?
- A DAP is a commitment to the ongoing review and improvement of services for people with a disability.
- It can help to develop more appropriate and sustainable public services and reduce barriers for people with a disability.
- It can help agencies to develop a better understanding of the needs of its service users and support closer relationships with the community.
- Disability Action Planning supports Government priorities as set out in the NSW State Plan: A new direction for NSW and Better Together: A new direction to make NSW Government services work better for people with a disability and their families 2007-2011.
- Disability Action Planning is underpinned by the NSW Disability Services Act 1993 (DSA) and Commonwealth Disability Discrimination Act 1992 (DDA) and can assist agencies to meet their obligations under this legislation.
The Disability Action Planning team
- A Disability Action Planning team has been set up in DADHC.
- The team's role is to support NSW Government agencies to develop and implement a Disability Action Plan.
- The team is currently developing guidelines, resources and information to assist agencies.
- These will be available on the website in the near future.
