New bikes for Central Coast disability service

Release Date: 27 May 2008

An Iemma Government grant of $4500 will help fund a new bicycle program for people with disabilities on the Central Coast.

NSW Minister for Disability Services, Kristina Keneally, and Marie Andrews MP, Member for Gosford, today announced the grant to Response Services Inc, and said it will be of significant benefit to the local community.

"The new money will enable Response to purchase equipment needed to run an effective outdoor recreation bike program," Ms Andrews said.

"The grant will cover the cost of equipment needed to start up the program, including three three-wheeled bicycles, a trailer with canopy, and helmets.

"The new program will broaden Response’s service, catering for people with disabilities who are interested in increasing their fitness, losing some weight and learning new skills."

Ms Keneally said that grant will build on the range of Iemma Government services which are delivered by Response in the local area.

"Response has been providing great services to people with disabilities on the Central Coast since 2001, helping them develop life skills within their community," Ms Keneally said.

"Great work which is already undertaken by Response for the Iemma Government includes managing our local Post School Options, Community Participation and Transition to Work programs.

"Those programs provide career paths and meaningful activities for local people with disabilities, delivering real improvements to their everyday lives and the opportunity to be all they can be.

"The Iemma Government will continue our work to increase the independence of people with disabilities, and provide them with the opportunities to meet their life goals."
