NSW Minister for Disability Services Kristina Keneally today announced the successful non-government organisations that will provide 73 new supported accommodation places for people with a disability.
“The Iemma Government has delivered these new supported accommodation places with an investment of $10 million,” Ms Keneally said.
“This confirms the Iemma Governments commitment to improving services for people with a disability, their families and carers,” Ms Keneally said.
“These places will provide people with a disability who are unable to live independently with secure, safe accommodation that meets their specific needs.
“The Iemma Government recognises there is a strong need for additional support for people with a disability.”
These places are part of the 110 additional places announced by the Government in February this year with the remaining places will be allocated by the end of this year.
The 73 new places will be provided by seven non-government organisations and are spread throughout the State, including:
• House With No Steps - five in Taree, 10 in Hastings, five in Coffs Harbour, five in
Tweed;
• Life Without Barriers – five in Dubbo, five in Mudgee;
• Mercy Centre Lavington – five in Albury;
• Kurrajong Waratah - five in Wagga;
• Sylvanvale Disability Services and Ability Options Ltd – 17 in Camden;
• Ability Options Ltd – three in Marrickville;
• Sylvanvale Disability Services – four in Parramatta or Baulkham Hills; and
• Samaritans Foundation – four in Wyong.
Ms Keneally said Stronger Together would deliver an additional $207 million over its first five years for 340 extra specialist accommodation and support places.
“This $10 million investment includes $7.78 million in recurrent annual funding with the remaining funds to be used on one-off costs, including the purchase and modification of properties,” Ms Keneally said.
“These new accommodation places represent the start of an ongoing commitment to provide that extra support to people with a disability, their families and carers.”
